What is ASHRAE Standard 90.1 ?
ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2010 is simply 90.1-2007, with the incorporation of more than 100 approved addenda, 52 of which affect mechanical systems . Other significant changes were made to the scope, lighting, building envelope and modeling sections of the standard, which will affect load calculations and equipment sizing.
The addenda that affect mechanical systems can be roughly grouped into the following areas:
- Equipment efficiency
- System design and control requirements
- Waterside
- Outdoor air
- Airside

This procedure was added for centrifugal chillers that often designed and optimized to operate at the job conditions and may not run at the standard ASHRI 550/590 rating Conditions
The procedure adjusts the minimum efficiency requirements based on the kadj calculation factor which is a function of lift and chilled water conditions
It was first introduced in the ASHRAE 90.1-1999 Standard using a tabular approach and tables are used to determine the revised COP.
There is a calculation equation which approximates the tables, but is not exact and the controlling requirement is the table.
Interpolation is required between the operating points, but extrapolation is not allowed
The tabular approach was continued in the ASHRAE 90.1-2001 and ASHRAE-2004 Standard.
In the 2010 Standard the tabular approach was dropped and the controlling method was a calculation method which was based in lift and chilled water temperature
It was revised some in each of the subsequent publications include ASHRAE 90. 1-2013, and ASHRAE 90.1-2016
In the tab's in this spreadsheet you will find a calculation tool for each of the years for IP and SI which includes automatic lookup of the based minimum efficiency as well as checks on the limits for the equation
The use of each ASHRAE 90.1 Standard Procedure will depend on that version of the ASHRAE 90.1 Procedure had been Adopted by
